Police in Webuye have arrested a 28-year-old woman in connection with the sudden death of Caleb Wekesa Nakhisa, the Deputy Principal of St Cecilia Misikhu Girls Secondary School.

The educator collapsed in a hotel room and was pronounced dead on arrival at Webuye Sub-County Hospital. Authorities are treating the case as a suspected murder as they await toxicology results to establish the exact cause of death.

According to police reports, Nakhisa had attended a school function before spending the evening of May 23 with the woman at entertainment spots in Webuye town. The pair later checked into Satellite Hotel around 11pm. Shortly after midnight, he reportedly began feeling unwell and was foaming at the mouth. The woman alerted hotel staff, who rushed him to hospital, but he could not be saved.

The woman, along with two hotel employees, has been helping detectives with investigations. Family members, including Nakhisa’s widow and father, have expressed shock and demanded thorough probes into the circumstances. A postmortem indicated cardiac arrest, with reports of black blood observed, leaving many unanswered questions about his final hours.

The tragic incident has deeply affected the local education community, with teachers’ union leaders highlighting the pressures educators face. As investigations continue, the case serves as a sobering reminder of personal safety and the need for clear answers during difficult times. Friends and colleagues are mourning the loss of a dedicated professional while hoping for closure for his grieving family.
