Moses Kuria Warns of Brutal April as Fuel Prices May Hit KSh 250 per Litre

Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has issued a strong warning about the coming month, describing April as “the toughest and most brutal month of all times.”
In a statement on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, Kuria predicted that fuel prices in Kenya could rise sharply to between KSh 230 and KSh 250 per litre.
Kuria linked the expected increase to global oil market trends and the weakening of the Kenyan shilling against the US dollar. He said the situation will put heavy pressure on households, transporters, and businesses across the country. Many Kenyans are already struggling with the high cost of living, and a further jump in fuel prices is likely to push up the cost of food, transport, and other basic goods.
The remarks have sparked concern among citizens who fear another wave of economic hardship. Fuel prices are reviewed every two weeks by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA). The next review is due in the coming days. The government has not yet commented on Kuria’s prediction. Many Kenyans are now waiting to see the actual prices when the new schedule is announced later this week.
