Mosiria Demands Ban on Summer Tides Event Over Viral Videos

Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has sparked debate by calling for a complete ban on the popular Summer Tides event in Malindi.

He raised alarm over videos circulating online that allegedly show young attendees engaging in inappropriate behaviour in public spaces during the recent gathering. In a video posted on his Instagram, Mosiria questioned the lack of public outcry and urged authorities to investigate the claims thoroughly.

“Summer Tides should be banned completely in Kenya. How can our young people openly engage in sexual acts in public spaces, and nobody is talking about it?” Mosiria said. He described the clips as deeply disturbing if authentic, highlighting concerns about unprotected activities that could harm participants' health and dignity. The official stressed that organisers of such large events must ensure compliance with the law and maintain public decency.

Mosiria also appealed directly to parents, urging them to monitor how their children spend money sent for trips and social outings. “To all parents, before you send money to your sons and daughters, especially this weekend, make sure you know where they are and what activities they are participating in,” he advised. He called for collective responsibility from families, communities, and authorities to guide the youth and prevent moral decay.

As the event continues to attract hype among young Kenyans, Mosiria’s strong stance has ignited discussions on youth safety, parental oversight, and the regulation of entertainment gatherings in the country. Organisers of Summer Tides had not responded publicly at the time of his remarks, leaving the future of the event uncertain amid growing calls for accountability.
