Motorcycle Rider Recounts Role in MP Ong’ondo Were Murder Case

A key witness in the high-profile murder trial of slain Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were has shared dramatic details in court about his unwitting involvement in the events leading to the killing.
Testifying under tight security at the Kibera Law Courts, the man described being hired to transport one of the suspects on his motorcycle across various parts of Nairobi. He received Ksh.50,000 for the job, which he claims he believed was nothing more than a routine transport service.
The testimony painted a vivid picture of the movements on the day of the incident. The witness recounted meeting the alleged hitman in Jacaranda before ferrying him to a car wash and later linking up with a second suspect driving a white Toyota Crown in Buruburu. The group proceeded toward the city center, stopping for fuel along Jogoo Road, before the motorcycle trailed the victim’s vehicle through busy routes including Kenyatta Avenue and Valley Road, eventually reaching the Daystar University roundabout
According to the rider, tension escalated quickly when gunshots rang out after a brief stop amid traffic. The suspect hurriedly returned to the motorcycle, ordering a swift escape back to Buruburu. The witness insisted he had no prior knowledge of any assassination plot, emphasizing that his role was limited to providing transport while the others conducted what appeared to be surveillance near Parliament buildings. His account has emerged as an important piece connecting the suspects to the crime scene.
The trial continues to unfold behind closed doors as prosecutors build their case around this and other testimonies. The shocking murder of the MP has gripped public attention across the country, raising broader questions about political violence and security for elected leaders. Many are watching closely to see how justice will be served in this sensitive matter, with the witness remaining under protection throughout the proceedings.
