MP Kaunya Defends Busia Claim Over Changara After Waluke's Challenge

As the dispute intensifies over the ownership of Changara Division, located along the border between Bungoma and Busia counties, Teso North MP Oku Kaunya has dismissed claims by Sirisia MP John Waluke that Changara belongs to Bungoma and not Busia County.

In a statement to the media, Kaunya asserted that Changara Division falls within the Teso North Constituency in Busia County. He pointed out that it was officially published in the Kenya Gazette in 2017, and since 2022, a district officer has been stationed there following a court ruling affirming the area's location in Busia County.

Furthermore, Kaunya urged Waluke to focus on matters concerning his own constituency and to stop issuing threats to the residents of Changara or inciting hatred, noting that the locals have lived peacefully in the area for a long time without any conflicts. He also appealed to the public to remain calm and maintain peace while the matter is being addressed in the National Assembly.
