MP Loses Ksh17 Million Truck in Naivasha Protest Violence

Chesumei Member of Parliament Paul Biego has revealed the devastating loss of his valuable truck during the chaotic fuel price demonstrations in Naivasha.

The UDA lawmaker reported that the Actros 3340 lorry, registration number KBV 364J, was torched and looted by unruly crowds on Monday. Parked at Kanini Haraka Wholesalers after delivering flour from Eldoret, the vehicle became a target amid the angry protests sweeping parts of the country.

Biego described the incident as deeply heartbreaking, noting that the truck, valued at over Ksh17 million and originally costing around Ksh26 million when new, represented years of personal sacrifice. He emphasized how the lorry supported multiple families through employment for drivers, loaders, mechanics, and other workers. In his statement issued on Tuesday, the MP condemned the destruction as unnecessary and harmful, especially at a time when many businesses and citizens are already battling tough economic conditions.

The attack forms part of a broader wave of unrest triggered by recent fuel price adjustments that have sparked strikes and demonstrations nationwide. While security forces work to restore calm, this latest case of property vandalism underscores the heavy human and financial toll of the protests. Biego highlighted how such acts only deepen the suffering of hardworking Kenyans trying to earn a living in difficult times.

As calls for dialogue and restraint grow louder, incidents like the torching of this truck serve as a stark reminder of the urgent need for peaceful resolution to the cost-of-living crisis. Lawmakers and citizens alike are watching to see how authorities respond to both the economic grievances and the resulting violence. For now, the loss adds another painful chapter to the ongoing national conversation about fuel costs and public order.
