MP Njeri Maina Alleges Secret Meeting Between Malala & Waiguru to Split DCP

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has ignited fresh controversy in the Democratic Citizens Party (DCP) by accusing Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala of holding a clandestine meeting with allies of Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.

According to Maina, the gathering occurred between 8 pm and 10 pm at the Golden Palm hotel in Kenol, where several Members of County Assembly (MCAs) loyal to Waiguru were present. She claimed the primary agenda was to engineer a splinter faction within the party, specifically targeting and weakening the influence of DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua and his supporters in Kirinyaga County.

Maina further alleged that Malala provided each attending MCA with KSh 20,000 in facilitation funds, money she said originated from parties intent on derailing Gachagua’s political objectives and the broader movement for a united alternative government. Drawing from Malala’s past as secretary-general of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), she accused him of a recurring pattern of accepting payments in exchange for political maneuvers, insisting his current actions demonstrate no real change in character. The MP emphasized that she had previously raised these concerns with him privately but chose to go public due to ongoing efforts to undermine Gachagua’s camp in the region.

The explosive claims have heightened internal rifts within the DCP, with Maina openly questioning Malala’s true allegiances and challenging him to a direct political confrontation. As of Thursday, March 12, 2026, neither Cleophas Malala nor Anne Waiguru had issued any public response to the serious accusations, allowing speculation to grow about possible external influences and deepening divisions in the emerging opposition party.
