MP Salasya Walks Free in Hate Speech Case After Fulfilling Peace Campaign Conditions.

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has been cleared of hate speech charges by the Milimani Magistrate’s Court after successfully meeting the required conditions for resolution.
In a ruling by Magistrate Paul Mutai, the court confirmed that Salasya had fulfilled his obligations under an out-of-court agreement with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC). This included issuing a public apology and actively participating in a social media peace campaign that reached more than 1,000 individuals, with ongoing efforts still in place.
The magistrate highlighted Salasya's commitment to continuing these peace-building activities, which paved the way for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) — represented by prosecutor Nora Achieng — to formally withdraw the case.
The charges dated back to May 19, 2025, when the Mumias East legislator was accused of posting inflammatory remarks on social media that targeted a particular community, allegedly amounting to hate speech.
Earlier court proceedings had conditioned any dismissal on proof of genuine remorse and proactive steps toward promoting national cohesion, including the peace advocacy drive on digital platforms.
With compliance now verified, the hate speech case against MP Peter Salasya stands withdrawn, marking a resolution through reconciliation rather than full trial.
