MPs Question Deputy President Kindiki’s Office Over Ksh 8 Million Daily Chopper Spending

Members of Parliament have raised concerns about high spending on helicopter services by the Office of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.
During a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee on April 9, 2026, lawmakers questioned entries showing that up to Ksh 8.08 million was spent on a single day for chopper trips to counties including Tharaka Nithi, Laikipia, Isiolo, and Kitui.
Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo asked whether it was practical to spend such a large amount in one day and questioned the frequency of the flights. The committee is reviewing pending bills amounting to Ksh 478 million for the 2024/2025 financial year, out of which around Ksh 150 million was used for hiring helicopters and air travel.
Committee chair Tindi Mwale defended the Deputy President, saying he has the right to travel home and return. However, the MPs demanded detailed documents within one week to explain the spending and ensure value for public money. The Office of the Deputy President is working with the National Treasury to manage budgets better and reduce such pending bills in future. The matter has sparked debate on the proper use of public resources for official duties.
