Murang'a County Emerges as Kenya's Top Performer in Job Creation and E-Government Services

According to a report by the Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat, the county achieved an outstanding score of 98.3%, significantly outperforming others in key areas such as digitization, revenue management, and employment generation initiatives. This ranking highlights Murang'a's commitment to modernizing public administration through technology, setting a benchmark for other counties.

The county's success stems from comprehensive automation efforts that have transformed service delivery without raising taxes or levies. Notable achievements include doubling annual revenue collection from KSh 500 million to over KSh 1.3 billion, fully digitizing hospital operations for paperless processes, launching the "Inue Mkulima" program for smart farmer subsidies, and enabling online applications for bursaries. These innovations have enhanced accessibility, boosted efficiency, and supported economic growth by creating opportunities, particularly for youth and local entrepreneurs.

In comparison, Nakuru followed in second place with 87.3%, Kiambu scored 83.9%, Kisumu 81.2%, and Meru (tied with Nairobi) at 80.3% to round out the top performers. The Vision 2030 report recommends establishing legal requirements for counties to automate essential services like revenue and health management, while urging faster rural internet connectivity and public-private partnerships to further drive job creation. It also emphasizes strong leadership and governance as critical factors in addressing challenges like youth unemployment and ensuring sustainable progress across Kenya.
