Nairobi Hospital Veteran Gynaecologist Dr Job Obwaka Passes Away at 83

Renowned Kenyan gynaecologist Dr Job Obwaka has died at the age of 83. The experienced medical specialist, who served for many years as a director at The Nairobi Hospital, passed away on Friday evening.
Family members reported that he was rushed to the same facility where he had worked while unconscious, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Dr Obwaka dedicated decades of his professional life to advancing women's health care in Kenya. Colleagues and patients remembered him as a committed doctor who contributed greatly to medical practice and leadership within one of the country's top private hospitals. His long service earned him respect across the health sector.
The news of his passing comes weeks after he faced a challenging period. Dr Obwaka, along with other hospital directors, was recently arrested and taken to court amid a dispute over leadership at The Nairobi Hospital. The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union strongly criticised the arrest at the time, highlighting his age and many years of service to the nation.
Tributes have begun to pour in from fellow doctors, health officials, and those who benefited from his expertise. His death marks the end of an era for a generation of medical professionals who helped build Kenya's reputation in specialised care. As the family prepares for funeral arrangements, many in the medical community continue to reflect on his lasting impact on healthcare delivery, particularly in obstetrics and gynaecology.
