Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna Returns to Tribunal to Block Removal as ODM Secretary General

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has filed a fresh application at the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal seeking urgent orders to prevent his removal as Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement.

The move comes just days before a scheduled disciplinary hearing set for April 10, 2026. Through his lawyers, Sifuna is asking the tribunal to suspend any steps by the party to replace him and to stop the upcoming hearing process.

The senator received a formal notice from the party on April 2, 2026, requiring him to explain why he should not face disciplinary action. The party accuses him of gross misconduct, including publicly going against official party positions and failing to attend important meetings. Sifuna argues that the process to remove him is not being handled fairly and wants the tribunal to intervene so that his position remains protected until the matter is properly resolved.

This latest application follows earlier attempts by Sifuna to challenge moves against him within the party. The tribunal had previously directed that the dispute first go through the party’s internal resolution mechanisms. Sifuna’s team has now returned to the tribunal under a certificate of urgency, warning that without intervention, the party could move quickly to formalize his removal. The case highlights ongoing tensions inside the Orange Democratic Movement as both sides prepare for the hearing next week. The tribunal is expected to consider the urgent request in the coming days.
