The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned Kimilili MP Didmus Wekesa Barasa over remarks he allegedly made in Sirisia Constituency, Bungoma County, on September 19, 2026.

In a summons dated September 22, the commission directed Barasa to appear before it on Tuesday, September 29, at 10 a.m. at its offices in Britam Tower, Upper Hill, Nairobi.

The NCIC said the inquiry relates to remarks concerning leaders from the former Western Province holding senior government positions and comments on how people from different communities are treated during recruitment.

Barasa will be given an opportunity to respond to the allegations, present evidence, and make representations before the commission makes a determination.

The summons come as the NCIC steps up scrutiny of public utterances by political leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election. At least 10 leaders have been summoned or formally brought under the commission's inquiries this year over alleged hate speech, ethnic incitement, or related remarks based on publicly reported cases.

The latest action also includes Turkana South MP John Ariko Namoit, who has been summoned over remarks he allegedly made in Turkana South on September 2. He is scheduled to appear before the commission on the same day as Barasa.

The NCIC is mandated to promote national cohesion and integration and to address hate speech, ethnic contempt, and discrimination.

The summonses do not amount to a finding that either lawmaker has committed an offence, with the commission expected to consider their responses before making a determination.
