Ndindi Nyoro Slashes Day School Fees to only Ksh.500 in Kiharu.

Kiharu Member of Parliament Hon. Ndindi Nyoro has officially launched the Kiharu Masomo Bora Programme 2026, announcing a significant cut in school fees for day secondary schools.
Under this initiative, fees for learners from Grade 10 to Form Four have been reduced from Ksh 1,000 to Ksh 500 per term. This change will benefit over 12,000 students enrolled in the 65 public day secondary schools across the constituency, easing the financial burden on families and enhancing access to secondary education.
The reduced fee structure takes effect starting Term One of 2026 and applies to all students in these public day secondary institutions.
Complementing the fee reduction, the programme introduces a robust school feeding program, providing lunch to all learners on every school day—including Saturdays. The menu features githeri three days a week, rice three days a week, uji during tea breaks, and chapati served for lunch on the last Friday of each month. This is designed to boost attendance, improve concentration, and enhance overall academic outcomes.
To further promote excellence, the Kiharu NG-CDF has committed an extra Ksh 10 million this financial year for revision materials, building on the Ksh 20 million invested in prior years.
Infrastructure development remains a priority, with over Ksh 50 million allocated to upgrades—particularly focused on constructing and improving laboratories.
In support of new and low-enrolment schools, students entering Grade 10 in 20 identified institutions will receive free uniforms. Additionally, each of the 65 day secondary schools will get an extra Ksh 50,000 to fund music, sports, and other co-curricular activities.
The programme also rewards excellence and motivation among staff: the best-performing teacher in each sub-county will enjoy a fully sponsored trip to Mombasa, while top-performing principals will receive international trips to Dubai or Malaysia.
Schools offering remedial programmes are limited to a maximum of Ksh 1,000 per term, with no additional registration fees or unauthorized charges permitted.
Furthermore, the initiative covers insurance premiums and servicing costs for school buses owned by day secondary schools, reducing operational pressures on both institutions and parents.
Importantly, the benefits extend to all enrolled learners in Kiharu's day secondary schools, including those from outside the constituency.
