NTSA Launches Automated Instant Traffic Fines System in Kenya

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has officially rolled out the Instant Fines Traffic Management System, a fully automated digital platform designed to streamline traffic violation enforcement.

Following President William Ruto's directive earlier in March 2026 to implement the long-delayed program swiftly, the system is now live. It automatically detects breaches of road regulations and sends instant SMS notifications to motorists' phones, detailing the offence, location, and fine amount—eliminating manual interventions by traffic officers for greater transparency and efficiency.

Under the new setup, motorists must pay fines within seven days through any branch of KCB Group. Failure to settle the penalty on time triggers interest charges on the outstanding amount, and both the vehicle and driver will be barred from accessing NTSA services until the fine is cleared. The system supports the government's push to modernize traffic management, with plans to integrate smart surveillance cameras in major urban centers to capture violations in real time and further reduce road accidents amid concerns over rising fatalities.

NTSA has urged all road users to strictly observe traffic rules and respond promptly to any official notifications received via SMS. The initiative, part of broader reforms to enhance road safety and accountability, aims to minimize corruption and direct human involvement in enforcement while promoting quicker compliance. Motorists are advised to stay updated through official government channels for any additional implementation details.
