NTSA Suspends Instant Fines System Effective Immediately

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended its new Instant Fines Traffic Management System with immediate effect.
This follows a High Court order that stopped the enforcement of automated traffic fines. Motorists across Kenya will no longer receive instant penalties generated through the digital system until the court fully hears and decides the case.
The suspension comes after a petition challenged the system, arguing that it may not follow proper legal steps and could affect the rights of drivers. The High Court issued conservatory orders barring NTSA from issuing, demanding, or enforcing any automated fines. This gives relief to many road users who had raised concerns about the new method of handling traffic offences.
The move is seen as a temporary pause on the digital fines programme that NTSA had recently launched to improve road safety and reduce corruption in traffic enforcement. The case is scheduled for further mention in court soon. In the meantime, traditional ways of handling traffic offences through traffic police will continue. Many Kenyans welcome the decision while the matter is being resolved.
