Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda Over Political Violence

Police in Kisii County have summoned Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament Zaheer Jhanda as part of a widening investigation into a violent clash that disrupted a political event.
The Friday incident occurred in Keumbu along the Kisii-Keroka Road, where armed youths attacked a convoy linked to the Linda Mwananchi movement. Several supporters were injured, and vehicles sustained damage during the confrontation involving stones and clubs. Among those affected was United Green Movement Party presidential aspirant David Maraga, whose car was hit although he escaped unharmed.
Authorities have already arrested seven suspects in connection with the chaos, which also saw properties destroyed in the area. The National Police Service confirmed that investigations remain active, with officers seeking more details to identify all those involved. The MP is expected to assist detectives at the Kisii County Directorate of Criminal Investigations office in shedding light on the events. This development comes amid growing concerns over political tensions in the region.
The attack has drawn strong reactions from political leaders and members of the public, who are calling for calm and accountability. Supporters of the affected movement have condemned the violence and urged swift action against the perpetrators and any sponsors. Police have appealed to residents to share useful information through local stations or toll-free lines to support the probe. Such incidents highlight the challenges of maintaining peace during political activities in various parts of the country.
As the investigation proceeds, security agencies have promised firm measures to prevent further disruptions and protect public safety. The episode serves as a reminder of the need for tolerance and dialogue in the country's political landscape. Many Kenyans hope that those responsible will face justice, helping to restore confidence in peaceful political engagement across communities.
