Oburu Oginga Dismisses Claims that ODM Has Been Bought

Today, Friday 27 March 2026, at the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Special National Delegates Conference held at Jamhuri Grounds in Nairobi, the new party leader Dr Oburu Oginga strongly rejected claims that the party has been sold or bought by anyone.

He asked directly, “Those saying ODM has been bought, who bought it?” His remarks came as the party tries to move forward after the death of its long-time leader, the late Raila Amollo Odinga.

Oburu, who is Raila’s elder brother, challenged the critics by saying that at his age, no one can buy him. He made it clear that ODM is not ashamed to seek power and will continue working to achieve its goals. His statement was aimed at those who accuse the party of making deals or changing direction after entering into new political arrangements.

This strong defence by Oburu happened on the same day that Winnie Odinga congratulated him as the new party leader and called for more space for young people in ODM. It also follows the earlier removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as Secretary General. Many see Oburu’s words as a firm message to unite the party and silence rumours as ODM prepares for the future.
