ODM Distances Itself from Oketch Salah’s Independent Grassroots Push

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has publicly distanced itself from the recent grassroots activities and public statements made by activist and businessman Oketch Salah.

In a formal statement issued by National Chairperson Gladys Wanga, the party emphasized that all actions, remarks, and engagements by Salah are strictly personal and carry no official endorsement or binding effect on ODM. The leadership stressed the importance of maintaining discipline, urging all members, supporters, and grassroots organizers to channel any party-related programs exclusively through the official Secretariat and under the direct guidance of the party leader, Dr. Oburu Odinga.

The clarification comes amid Salah's independent efforts to mobilize and energize ODM supporters at the community level, using his own personal funds without seeking party resources or approval. ODM reiterated that unauthorized initiatives risk undermining the structured approach the party follows in pursuing its goals, and warned against any activities conducted in the party's name without prior consultation.

In response, Oketch Salah released a heartfelt message reaffirming his deep commitment to ODM and its ideals. He expressed regret if his initiatives had caused any discomfort to the party leadership, particularly Chairperson Wanga, while insisting that his work has always aimed to strengthen and popularize the movement, especially at the grassroots. Salah highlighted his longstanding personal loyalty, rooted in a promise made to the late Raila Odinga during a time they spent together in India, and vowed to continue supporting the party out of genuine affection for its history and legacy, even as he advocates for renewed energy and outreach to inspire ordinary Kenyans.
