ODM Drops Sifuna and Osotsi from Key Committees

The Orange Democratic Movement has made significant changes in the Senate that strip Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi of their positions on influential committees.

The adjustments come against a backdrop of internal party tensions, with Sifuna having openly questioned the party’s recent political direction and its engagement with the ruling administration.

Sifuna is set to lose his seat on the powerful County Public Accounts Committee, which oversees the work of governors and county assemblies. Should the House Business Committee approve the proposal, the Nairobi senator will be reassigned to the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Committee, while Senate Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo of Kilifi is expected to take over the oversight role.

Vihiga Senator Osotsi has also been removed from the County Public Investments and Special Funds Committee following a vote of no confidence by members. He will now serve on the Trade, Industrialisation and Tourism Committee, with his former position going to Taita Taveta Senator Johannes Mwaruma.

Minority Leader Madzayo has defended the reshuffle as a routine procedural matter and insisted it is not connected to the recent political disagreements within the party. The changes are scheduled to take effect on the floor of the Senate once the House Business Committee completes its consideration.

These developments unfold as the party continues to wrestle with competing views on its strategy ahead of the next general election, with some leaders calling for a sharper opposition stance while others favour sustained engagement with the broad-based government. The committee shifts are likely to fuel further discussion about unity and direction within the ranks.
