ODM Firmly Targets Deputy Presidency in Upcoming Coalition Talks

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Dr. Oburu Oginga has firmly stated that his party will push aggressively for the Deputy President position during forthcoming negotiations with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Speaking at a strategy meeting in Siaya County Assembly chambers, he rejected assertions from certain government figures that the role is off-limits, stressing that ODM is committed to securing key gains to protect its standing in the broad-based government framework originally established under the late Raila Odinga.

Dr. Oginga made it clear that the party intends to bargain strongly without concessions, describing the Deputy Presidency as a major priority alongside other demands. He declared that ODM would not shy away from tough positions, even if they unsettle some quarters, as the focus remains on advancing the interests of its supporters and ensuring long-term influence in national leadership. "We are going to negotiate hard, we won't leave anything out," he emphasized, adding that the party aims to position itself for future governance power.

He also appealed for solidarity within the Luo community and broader ODM ranks to bolster their leverage in the shifting political dynamics. The consultative gathering, attended by Siaya County Assembly members, served as preparation for upcoming political activities, including a major rally. Local leaders expressed full backing for Dr. Oginga's direction as ODM navigates its role in the evolving government coalition ahead of future elections.
