Omanyo Says She Felt Idle Working Under Sifuna as Deputy

Busia County Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo has said she felt idle while serving as deputy to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

Omanyo, who is also the acting Deputy Secretary General of ODM, made the remarks on Monday, March 30, 2026. She explained that Sifuna did not delegate work to her and handled most tasks himself.

“I used to feel somehow idle while serving as Sifuna’s deputy. He never delegated anything to me. He took it all, did it all, and was a know-it-all,” Omanyo said. She added that she chose to follow party instructions and avoid conflicts, saying, “If you have such a boss, you don’t stamp on his ego because it can backfire. I just sat back and let him be.”

The comments come amid ongoing tensions within ODM. Omanyo has been critical of Sifuna and a group of party members she believes are going against party leadership. Her remarks have sparked discussions on social media, with some people supporting her view on leadership style while others see it as part of internal party fights. The statements highlight divisions in the party as it prepares for future political battles.
