Goods worth millions of shillings were destroyed after a massive fire razed more than 10 shops in Malaba town, Busia County, overnight into today.
According to the affected traders, led by Doris Wamwendwa, the blaze started around 8 p.m. (or 8:00 PM) from the rear of one shop and rapidly spread to the neighboring shops.
The traders have pointed fingers at the Busia County Government, accusing it of negligence—particularly due to the delayed arrival of the fire engine, which reportedly took four hours to reach the scene.
The incident has left many business owners devastated, with significant stock and property lost in the inferno. Authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause of the fire.
