Photojournalist Nick Kosgei, who served as the dedicated personal photographer and videographer for Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng'eno, tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash on February 28, 2026, in Chepkiep Forest, Mosop Sub-County, Nandi County.

The private helicopter (registration 5Y-DSB) burst into flames shortly after takeoff from a makeshift landing site amid poor visibility due to heavy rains. All six on board perished, including MP Ng'eno, pilot Captain George Were (Rtd), Kenya Forest Service ranger Amos Rotich, teacher Carlos Keter, Narok County protocol officer Wycliffe Rono, and Kosgei. Kosgei, known for his talent and commitment, had been documenting the MP's visit to assess flood damage along the Mara River when the accident occurred.

The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) mourned Kosgei as a promising young professional whose death has left a void in Kenya's media fraternity. His family described him as the family's hope and main support, with shattered dreams following the sudden loss. Kosgei hailed from Kipkebe village in Silibwet Township Ward, Bomet Central Constituency, where preparations for his burial are underway at his father's home.

Nick Kosgei's funeral is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2026, in Kipkebe, Bomet County. His body will leave Tenwek Hospital for a service at Precious Academy Grounds, followed by burial. Earlier, a joint mass for all crash victims took place on March 4, 2026. This somber event comes as investigations continue, with parts of the wreckage set for overseas forensic analysis, amid calls for thorough probes into the cause.
