Police Arrest Drug Trafficker on Thika-Garissa Highway

Police officers have arrested a 27-year-old man in Kanyonyoo along the Thika-Garissa Highway after discovering a large quantity of cannabis in his possession during a routine roadblock check.
The suspect, identified as Stephen Oronje, was travelling in a Nissan matatu when officers stopped the vehicle for inspection. What started as a standard search quickly led to the recovery of illegal drugs hidden among his belongings.
During the search, officers found a black package containing several bales of cannabis sativa, carefully wrapped in yellow cellotape. Alongside the drugs, they seized eight packs of Rizla rolling papers, each holding 100 sheets, and a digital scale. These items suggested that Oronje was not only transporting the narcotics but was also prepared to prepare and distribute them.
According to police, the suspect had planned to sell the cannabis in Kitui town. He reportedly told officers that he had obtained the drugs from Bungoma County. The arrest highlights the continued efforts by law enforcement to stop the movement of illegal substances along major highways that connect different parts of the country.
Oronje is currently being held at Kanyonyoo Police Station, where he is undergoing processing. He is expected to be arraigned in court soon to face charges related to drug trafficking. This incident serves as a reminder of the persistent challenge of drug smuggling and the important role played by police checkpoints in keeping communities safer from the harmful effects of narcotics.
