Police Chief Alleges Armed Thugs Transported from Nairobi to Kakamega Ahead of Sifuna's Planned Rally

The Western Regional Police Commander has accused Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna of intending to transport armed troublemakers from Nairobi to disrupt a planned political gathering in Kakamega.
In a media briefing, Commander Issa Mahmoud stated that intelligence indicates individuals traveling from the capital are equipped with guns, including rifles. "Intelligence indicates that those arriving from Nairobi will carry firearms. This is the information we've received regarding the group set to hold a rally tomorrow," he said.
Mahmoud explained that authorities have not received any official notification for the event scheduled at Amalemba Grounds in Kakamega town, claiming they only became aware of it through social media posts. He added that no one from the organizing side has approached his office for coordination or support.
The commander vowed to maintain law and order, stating police would not permit any disorder. "Police will step in wherever issues arise and act decisively as required. Our duty is to preserve peace as much as possible, using every means available. We will not allow any chaos," he emphasized. He assured that adequate officers are already in place, with reinforcements ready if necessary.
These comments come after reports of an attack on Sifuna's Linda Mwananchi convoy en route to the region, where a stone struck one vehicle at Kona Mbaya trading center.
In response, Senator Sifuna declared he would not yield to intimidation and plans to proceed with the rally as scheduled.
