Police in Busia seize ethanol worth KSh 22 million; three suspects arrested in Teso South crackdown.

Police in Adung'osi, Teso South Busia County, have intercepted a consignment of ethanol alcohol worth 22 million shillings, in a major crackdown on illicit trade.

Busia County Police Commander Ahmed Abdilleh said the ethanol was seized early on friday, 10th of April, from a trailer that had been parked on a farm near Adung'osi market. Three suspects, including the driver, were arrested in connection with the incident.

"This morning, we have intercepted a lory carrying 74 drum of ethanol, each drum containing 250 almost 18,500ltrs of ethanol with a straight value of 22 million and two hundred thousand. The lory was intercepted while hidden in a sugarcane plantation farm, and the transporters stated that the consignment was destined to eldoret. " ~ Ahmed Abdilleh

Preliminarily, investigations indicate that ethanol is believed to have originated from neighbouring country Uganda and was being transported to Eldoret. The suspects are set to be arraigned in court on Monday, the 13th of April this year.

"So far, we have 3 suspects in our cells. The driver and two other persons in cell and they will be taken to court on by 13th Monday, those who were dealing with those business I tell them to stop because they will not go fur." ~ Ahmed Abdilleh

Nevertheless, the police have reiterated their commitment to intensifying operations against the illegal transportation and distribution of hazardous substances, urging the community to work in hand with the police to curb such business.

"Security is a collective responsibility, is not a one man show , therefore we urge members of the public to continue assisting the police by giving out the informations"
