Police Investigate Sudden Death of Chinese Worker at Talanta Stadium Site

Police in Nairobi are investigating the sudden death of a Chinese national at the Talanta Stadium construction site.

The man was found unresponsive inside a community latrine on the morning of Monday, March 30, 2026. A chef working with the Chinese management team discovered him and raised the alarm.

Security officers and other Chinese workers rushed the man to Nairobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Nairobi Police Chief Issa Mohamud said investigators are looking into two possibilities: a sudden natural death or foul play. A small injury was noticed on the right side of the man’s head. The body has been moved to Lee Funeral Home for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

The Talanta Stadium, which is 86% complete, is being built to host matches during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). It is expected to be ready by June 2026 and will later be renamed Raila Odinga Stadium. Police have visited the site, collected evidence, and are interviewing workers as the probe continues. No arrests have been made so far.
