Police Officer from Kakamega Central Dies in Head-On Collision with Speeding Sugarcane Truck
A police officer attached to Kakamega Central Police Station lost his life on Wednesday after the police vehicle he was driving collided head-on with a speeding sugarcane truck along the Kakamega–Mumias Highway.
According to preliminary reports, the truck belonging to Kabras Sugar Company was travelling at high speed when the two vehicles smashed into each other. The impact was so severe that the officer died instantly at the scene.
Both the badly damaged police vehicle and the sugarcane truck were towed to Kakamega Central Police Station for further inspection. The body of the deceased officer has been moved to Kakamega County Referral Hospital Funeral Parlour, where it awaits identification and postmortem.
Police have launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident as road users continue to raise concerns over the safety of the busy highway, which is often used by heavy trucks.
