Police Recover 26 Illegal Firearms During Disarmament Exercise in Turkana County

Security officers in Turkana County have recovered 26 illegal firearms as part of the ongoing voluntary disarmament exercise aimed at restoring peace in the region.
The weapons surrendered include 21 AK-47 rifles, 2 M16 rifles, 2 MK4 firearms, and 1 G3 rifle. This latest haul demonstrates continued cooperation between local communities and the National Police Service in efforts to reduce armed conflict and improve public safety.
The recovery forms part of the broader Operation Maliza Uhalifu, which encourages residents to hand over unlicensed weapons peacefully. Authorities say the exercise has been gaining momentum, with hundreds of firearms already collected across Turkana and neighbouring areas in recent weeks. Officials believe removing these weapons from circulation will help ease tensions linked to intercommunal clashes and banditry that have affected many parts of the county for years.
