Police Seize Ammunition and GSU Uniforms from Nairobi-Bound Bus on Thika-Garissa Highway

Police have intercepted a passenger bus transporting live ammunition and suspected government security items along the Thika-Garissa Highway.

The discovery was made during a routine inspection by a multi-agency team at a roadblock in Kanyonyoo. Authorities described the find as a significant step in preventing a possible security threat.

Inside a blue metallic box in the bus boot, officers recovered 19 rounds of 7.62x51mm G3 ammunition and 116 rounds of 7.62x39mm AK-47 ammunition, along with two empty AK-47 magazines and two machetes. They also found a full set of GSU ceremonial attire, two combat jackets, three jungle green trousers, and a GSU red beret. The items had been booked as a parcel from Mokowe in Lamu County, but the absence of clear sender details raised immediate concerns.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations confirmed the interception and said investigations are underway to establish the source and intended destination of the goods. No arrests have been detailed in initial reports, but security agencies are expected to pursue all leads connected to the consignment.

This incident highlights ongoing efforts by security forces to monitor major transport routes and prevent the movement of dangerous materials. The Thika-Garissa Highway serves as a vital link, making such checks particularly important for public safety. Further updates are anticipated as authorities continue their probe.
