President Ruto announces plan to build new world-class airport this year

President William Ruto has announced that construction of a new world-class airport will commence this year, with the goal of boosting Kenya's appeal to global investors and tourists.
Addressing members of the Dawoodi Bohra community in Nairobi on Friday, the President emphasized that Kenya's path to becoming a first-world nation remains firmly on track, crediting the community's substantial contributions to education and healthcare as a key factor.
During his meeting with the community's spiritual leader, His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, President Ruto revealed plans to develop an additional state-of-the-art international airport, further strengthening Kenya's aviation infrastructure.
"Your Holiness, I know you use our airport. I just want to assure you that this year we will be building a new world-class airport that will support not just Kenya as a hub in our region, not just our tourism sector, but also our business people who use our airports," said Ruto.
The proposed facility is intended to relieve pressure on the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), especially after the earlier collaboration with India's Adani Group fell through.
According to the government, the new airport will significantly expand passenger handling capacity, raising it from the current 88 million to 100 million annually.
