President William Ruto has directed the Ministry of Housing to rename Nairobi's historic Shauri Moyo Housing Estate—one of the city's largest with around 4,500 units—to Johana Ng’eno Housing Estate (or variations like Johana Ng’eno Boma Yangu Estate) in tribute to the late Emurua Dikirr MP.

The announcement came during the burial ceremony for Ng’eno and four others who perished in a helicopter crash, held at Emurua Dikirr Primary School in Narok County on March 6, 2026. Ng’eno, who chaired the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works, was recognized for his steadfast leadership in advancing the government’s affordable housing programme despite challenges, opposition, and legal hurdles surrounding the housing levy.

In his address, President Ruto praised Ng’eno’s pivotal role in ensuring the success of the housing agenda, stating that the renaming honors the “good work” and leadership he provided as committee chair. The President described the initiative as transformative, citing examples of its impact, including a modern market in Emurua Dikirr valued at nearly KSh 70 million. He emphasized that the directive stems from recommendations tied to Ng’eno’s contributions to building homes for Kenyans, positioning the move as a lasting recognition of his dedication to national development in the housing sector.

The renaming forms part of broader tributes at the event, where Ruto also pledged significant support for the constituency, including KSh 20 million toward a Maasai Mara University campus in Emurua Dikirr, with instructions for the Housing Principal Secretary to allocate KSh 750 million for construction and hostels. The late MP was remembered as a vocal, fearless legislator who championed justice, equity, empowerment programs, and community progress, leaving a legacy that extends beyond housing to education, youth development, and local talent promotion in his constituency and across Kenya.
