President Ruto Set to Launch Major Development Projects in Busia County

President William Ruto is scheduled to visit Busia County on Monday, March 16, 2026, and Wednesday, March 18, 2026, to commission and inspect various development initiatives aimed at enhancing infrastructure and improving the lives of residents in the border region.

Busia Governor Dr. Paul Nyongesa Otuoma has enthusiastically welcomed the President's arrival, highlighting that the visit will play a key role in strengthening the county's infrastructure while boosting economic opportunities and overall well-being through stronger collaboration between the national and county governments.

The first day of the tour, on Monday, will commence in the Budalangi constituency, where President Ruto is expected to launch the tarmacking of the Sio Port-Mundere-Mumbakha road. The presidential motorcade will then proceed to Nasewa in the Matayos constituency to commission the tarmacking of the road connecting Nasewa to Matayos.

On the second day, Wednesday, activities will begin in Funyula with an inspection of the government's affordable housing project, followed by the launch of the Nangina-Muluanda-Nambomboto-Ganjala-Matayos road. The day will culminate in the official groundbreaking ceremony for a modern Busia sports stadium designed to accommodate over 10,000 spectators.

Governor Otuoma has called on residents to refrain from politicizing the visit and instead focus on its developmental significance. He stressed the importance of unity and cooperation between the national and county governments to ensure these projects—ranging from improved roads and markets to affordable housing and a state-of-the-art stadium—deliver tangible, long-term benefits to the people of Busia County.
