Rodri Lands in Barcelona for Dream Transfer

Spanish midfielder and World Cup-winning captain Rodri touched down in Barcelona on Monday to finalise his long-awaited move to the La Liga champions.
The arrival marks the end of one of the summer’s most closely watched transfer sagas and brings the 30-year-old one step closer to pulling on the famous Blaugrana jersey. He spoke briefly to waiting journalists at the airport, clearly relieved that negotiations had reached a successful conclusion.
“I'm very pleased to be here. The last few days have been intense, but I'm glad everything's sorted. Of course, playing for Barcelona is a dream,” Rodri told the media. He added that he could not wait to join his new teammates, many of whom he already knows from the national side, and declared it was time to begin work in earnest. Looking ahead, he said his ambitions with the club would centre on “the Champions League and whatever else comes our way.”
The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner landed in the Catalan capital the day after Manchester City and Barcelona struck an agreement on a transfer fee reported by local media to be around 75 million euros. A source inside the Spanish club indicated the formalities would be completed in the coming days, clearing the way for Rodri to complete his medical and put pen to paper. After seven highly successful seasons in England, the former Atletico Madrid and Villarreal player had earlier been linked with a move to Real Madrid before ultimately choosing their fierce rivals.
Injuries had limited Rodri’s availability over the past two campaigns, yet he still produced a series of commanding displays as Spain claimed a second World Cup title in North America last month. That international success further underlined his value as one of the most accomplished midfielders of his generation and strengthened Barcelona’s determination to secure his signature. The switch also closes a chapter of consistent silverware collection at the Etihad Stadium.
With the deal now effectively sealed, attention turns to how quickly the experienced playmaker can integrate into the squad and contribute to Barcelona’s domestic and European ambitions. Fans of the club will hope the new arrival can recapture full fitness and help drive the team toward further major honours in the seasons ahead.
