Ruto to Fly Masagara and UsefulIdioty to UK for Live EPL Matches

President William Ruto has announced plans to sponsor two of Kenya's most popular football superfans—Kevin Masagara and Useful Idioty—for an unforgettable trip to watch live English Premier League matches in the United Kingdom.
The pledge came during a fun, banter-filled conversation with Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, better known as Jalang’o, who is a die-hard Manchester United supporter. The exchange started with playful jabs over recent Premier League results, particularly between Arsenal (Ruto's team) and Manchester United.
Jalang’o teased the President about Arsenal's standing and dismissed talk of a Manchester United win, saying something along the lines of Arsenal remaining atop the table while joking that Talanta Stadium might outshine Old Trafford and Emirates. In response, Ruto recalled United's recent success and turned the light-hearted roast into a generous gesture.
Jalang’o highlighted Masagara, widely regarded as Kenya's top Manchester United fan, noting that despite his passion, he had never attended a live match at Old Trafford. “There is a man called Masagara (Kevin); he is the number one Manchester fan in Kenya, and he has never watched a Manchester game live. He yearns to travel to Old Trafford. Let him go," Jalang’o urged.
Ruto, embracing the moment, agreed and extended the offer to an Arsenal supporter as well. “Okay, let us also take an Arsenal fan—he is called Useful Idioty,” he replied, before adding with mock complaint, “Jalango, you want to spoil our plan. You know that I am an Arsenal fan, and you are telling me things to do with Manchester.”
The President then committed fully: “I will sponsor Masagara and Useful Idioty to go watch the matches live. I will sponsor them business class tickets and also pay for accommodation so they get the experience.”
Masagara (a fervent Manchester United supporter) and Useful Idioty (a passionate Arsenal fan) have built massive followings among Kenyan youth, especially on TikTok, through their energetic, humorous, and rivalrous football commentary. Their lively debates and reactions have made them social media sensations in the local football scene.
Ruto framed the sponsorship as part of the government's push to develop sports in Kenya, linking it to initiatives like the upcoming Talanta Stadium project. He emphasized that the trip would give the duo a chance to experience top-tier stadium atmospheres firsthand and bring those insights back to inspire fans at home.
This isn't the first time the President has thrown support behind Kenyan sports personalities. Just days earlier, on February 8, he pledged Sh1 million each to boxers Majembe and Mbavu Destroyer ahead of their highly anticipated April 4, 2026 showdown, plus 2,000 fan tickets for the event—another move that sparked excitement in the local sports community.
The announcement has already generated buzz online, with many celebrating the President's gesture toward grassroots football passion and youth influencers.
