The countdown to the 2026 Safari 7s has begun, with Safaricom, through M-PESA, committing KSh 2 million towards the tournament.

The 28th edition will be held from October 9 to 11 at Nyayo National Stadium, bringing together 18 teams in the men’s and women’s categories.

Defending champions Kenya Shujaa and the Kenya Lionesses will return to defend their titles as thousands of rugby fans converge in Nairobi for three days of action.

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa says the partnership will help showcase Kenya’s sporting talent while enhancing the experience for fans, players, and organisers.

Safaricom will boost connectivity at the stadium and provide dedicated connectivity to support the tournament’s live broadcast.

The sponsorship adds to the company’s two-year partnership with the Kenya Rugby Union, valued at more than KSh 100 million, which supports the national sevens teams through allowances, medical insurance, airtime and financial literacy programmes.

KRU Chairperson Harriet Okach has welcomed the continued partnership, saying it will contribute to the growth of rugby in Kenya.
