Safaricom launches Chapa Dimba season 5.

Safaricom has officially kicked off the fifth season of its popular grassroots football tournament Chapa Dimba, bringing together young talents and football enthusiasts in a vibrant celebration of the sport.

The launch event took place at the iconic Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu, drawing crowds eager to witness the start of another exciting chapter. Known for discovering and nurturing hidden gems across the country, Chapa Dimba continues to serve as a vital platform that gives aspiring players a chance to showcase their skills and chase their dreams of professional success. This year's edition promises even more thrilling matches, community engagement, and opportunities for participants to shine on a national stage.

The atmosphere was electric as high-profile guests joined the festivities to lend their support. Brand ambassador Victor Wanyama, a celebrated Kenyan football icon, was on hand to inspire the next generation with his presence and words of encouragement. Football Kenya Federation leaders, including President Hassan and Deputy President McDonald Mariga, added prestige to the occasion alongside other notable celebrities and sports figures. Their attendance highlighted the tournament's growing importance in Kenya's sporting landscape and underscored a shared commitment to developing local talent through structured competitions and mentorship.

The tournament’s new pathways blend sports excellence with education and technology for holistic player development. Alongside the Gothia Cup trip, 150 outstanding participants will receive tertiary scholarships through the Safaricom Citizens of the Future program. The age category has been adjusted to 15-18 years to enable earlier identification and nurturing of raw potential. Enhanced scouting tools, including AI-powered GPS vests, VeO Cameras, and MyScout devices, will now track performance metrics from the county level, creating detailed digital profiles that connect players with scouts and clubs worldwide.

Safaricom Group CEO Peter Ndegwa emphasized the company’s vision of building well-rounded individuals who can drive positive change. By integrating sports, learning opportunities, and cutting-edge technology, the program aims to produce not only skilled footballers but also confident, educated young leaders. The tournament will unfold across eight regions in phased stages from ward to national finals, with substantial cash prizes for winners and standout individuals. Registration for boys’ and girls’ teams remains open through the official Chapa Dimba website.

Since its launch in 2017, Chapa Dimba has already propelled several graduates into professional careers and national team selections, including players who have featured at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. This latest season builds on that proud legacy, promising greater global exposure and structured growth. As the All-Star squad prepares to shine in Sweden, young dreamers across Kenya now have even stronger reasons to lace up their boots and chase greatness through one of the country’s most impactful youth sports platforms.
