Sifuna, Babu Owino Visit Slain Vincent Ayomo’s Family, Pledge to Take Care of Funeral Expenses

On Monday, February 23, 2026, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna paid a condolence visit to the family of Vincent Ayomo, the 28-year-old bodaboda rider who was fatally shot during chaotic scenes at a ‘Linda Mwananchi’ rally in Kitengela on February 15
The politicians met with Ayomo's grieving widow Khadija, their one-and-a-half-year-old child, and his elderly mother at the family's home. Ayomo, who served as the primary breadwinner, was killed by a single gunshot wound that entered through his left eye, causing catastrophic damage to his brain, spinal cord, and other vital areas, as confirmed by a postmortem examination conducted on February 21 at Nairobi Funeral Home in the presence of family members and their legal representatives.
During the emotional visit, Babu Owino and Edwin Sifuna expressed profound sorrow over the needless loss of life and pledged to fully cover the funeral expenses to ease the burden on the bereaved family. Babu Owino shared his thoughts on social media, describing the incident as "heartbreaking and unacceptable" and emphasizing that political rallies should foster dialogue rather than end in tragedy. He called for a swift, transparent investigation into the shooting and urged authorities to safeguard citizens' rights to peaceful assembly instead of endangering them. Senator Sifuna echoed these sentiments, labeling Ayomo's death as senseless and vowing to pursue justice, framing it within broader concerns about accountability under the current administration.
The visit highlighted ongoing demands for clarity surrounding the violent dispersal of the rally by police, which led to the fatal shooting just hours after the event concluded. The family, still grappling with the sudden loss, received the leaders' support amid their struggle to cope without their main provider. Photos from the occasion captured the politicians consoling the relatives, underscoring a gesture of solidarity in the face of tragedy. The incident continues to fuel calls for thorough probes into police conduct during public gatherings.
