Sifuna Dismisses Uhuru Funding Claims with Laughter

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has brushed aside allegations that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is financing opposition efforts against the current administration.
The Linda Mwananchi leader shared a clip from an interview with President William Ruto and responded with clear amusement at the answers given when evidence of such support was requested. His reaction highlighted ongoing political exchanges as the next general election approaches.
In the interview segment, Ruto faced questions about proof that Uhuru is backing the opposition. Instead of providing direct evidence, he pointed the reporter to a previous newspaper headline describing an Uhuru-led super coalition against the ruling side. Sifuna commented on the exchange in Swahili, noting that the person considered highly intelligent in the country had been asked a straightforward question yet referred only to a newspaper report while claiming others were the ones lacking sense.
Ruto and his associates have repeatedly suggested that Uhuru is providing financial support to opposition figures, including Sifuna and Jubilee presidential hopeful Fred Matiang’i. These claims form part of broader accusations aimed at explaining the growing challenge to the presidency. Uhuru has not issued a public response to the latest statements from the government side.
Sifuna has positioned himself as a prominent voice within the opposition, with his Linda Mwananchi platform gaining attention as part of wider efforts to contest the next election. Other potential contenders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Matiang’i and Martha Karua, have also signalled interest in the top seat. Coordinating a unified opposition ticket remains an important task for those seeking to present a strong alternative.
The exchange adds to the intensifying political atmosphere in the country ahead of 2027. Sifuna’s light-hearted dismissal of the sponsorship claims keeps the focus on the lack of concrete proof while reinforcing his role in the unfolding contest. Such public responses continue to shape the narrative as different sides prepare for the electoral battle.
