ODM removes Edwin Sifuna as party Secretary General

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has officially removed Edwin Sifuna from his position as the party's Secretary General with immediate effect.

The decision came from the National Executive Committee (NEC) during a meeting held in Mombasa on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. In a statement read by Deputy Secretary General Catherine Omanyo (who will now act in the role until a permanent replacement is chosen), the party explained that the move followed extensive discussions about Sifuna's conduct and concerns over growing indiscipline among senior leaders.

The NEC stressed that ODM functions under its constitution, rule of law, and collective decision-making through party organs. They cited the need to maintain discipline and unity as key reasons for the resolution. Sifuna, who is also the Nairobi Senator, was absent from the meeting—along with Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Osotsi—amid prior speculation and internal pressure for his removal. Party leader Senator Oburu Odinga had earlier signaled that action would be taken against certain problematic figures.

This leadership change reflects ongoing tensions within ODM as the party navigates its direction ahead of future elections. No response from Sifuna himself has been reported yet, and the party has not provided further details on specific incidents leading to the ouster. Catherine Omanyo, previously a deputy, steps in as acting Secretary General to ensure continuity.
