Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi Raised Sh1.6m During Western Tour
The Linda Mwananchi movement collected Sh1,629,662 during a recent tour of the Western region led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
Supporters contributed through both cash and mobile money transfers while attending public rallies across several towns. Organisers released figures showing strong participation from ordinary residents who turned out in large numbers to back the initiative over the weekend.
Bungoma led the collections with Sh914,473 received via M-Pesa from 13,528 individual donors. Kitale followed closely, gathering Sh692,124 from 9,952 contributors through the same channel, while residents of Kamukuywa added Sh23,065 in physical cash. The movement publicly thanked the people of the Western region for their generous response, describing the donations as clear evidence of expanding grassroots support for its activities.
In Kiminini within Trans Nzoia county, a roadside gathering on Sunday transformed into an impromptu fundraising moment. Locals approached Sifuna’s convoy and offered amounts as small as twenty-shilling coins and fifty-shilling notes. Social media clips captured the scenes of residents pressing forward to hand over whatever they could spare in a spontaneous display of solidarity with the movement.
Receiving the gifts, Sifuna told the crowd that the gesture proved the campaign would be sustained by everyday citizens rather than a few wealthy patrons. “They said one cannot be president in this country without money. I would rather be indebted to the people giving me as little as Sh10 than be indebted to one person who will give me Sh10 million,” he declared.
He warned that large private donations often come with later demands for major contracts once power is secured, adding that the movement’s paybill continues to receive steady small contributions every day.
Accompanied by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and other allies, the team stopped at multiple trading centres to mobilise support ahead of the next general election. Sifuna emphasised that the effort would continue with the power of ordinary people behind it, stating they had no need for government funds and would rely instead on the collective strength of the citizens.
