Sifuna Team Reserves Linda Mwananchi Party Name

Lawmakers linked to the breakaway Orange Democratic Movement faction confirmed that the name has already been reserved and that a meeting with the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties was scheduled to push the process forward. The group has also prepared alternative options in case the registration encounters legal or political hurdles, reflecting a determined effort to establish an independent platform for Sifuna’s bid.

An earlier application by another individual to reserve a similar name, Linda Mwananchi Party of the country, was rejected by Registrar of Political Parties John Cox Lorionokou. In formal communication, the registrar explained that the proposed name closely resembled an existing slogan, Linda Mkenya, Boresha Kenya, and raised public interest concerns in violation of Section 8 of the Political Parties Act. Despite that setback, members of Sifuna’s camp maintain that their version has been successfully reserved and expect clearance to proceed with full registration.

Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka stated that the team already holds the reservation and is moving ahead with confidence. “Tomorrow we have a meeting with the Registrar of Parties. We already reserved the name,” he said. He also underscored the need for contingency plans, noting, “In the country you must have plan ‘B’ and ‘C’. We are preparing to have our own party since ODM is now dead.” Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi added that the name belongs to their movement and cannot be blocked, emphasising that a team of experts is already drafting the party’s blueprint and manifesto.

The faction’s immediate priority is securing formal party status before embarking on a nationwide campaign across all 47 counties to build support. Only after establishing a solid organisational base do they intend to explore broader coalition arrangements. The development was discussed during a recent meeting with Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka, where Sifuna indicated that registration of Linda Mwananchi was already underway as part of wider opposition realignments.

As opposition figures continue seeking a unified structure to challenge the ruling coalition, the Linda Mwananchi initiative represents one concrete step toward creating a distinct political vehicle. Supporters argue that a properly registered party will provide the necessary foundation for popularising their message and negotiating future partnerships. The coming interactions with the registrar will determine whether the preferred name advances or whether the prepared alternatives come into play.
