St Joseph's Girls Kitale Crowned Kenya Secondary School Hockey Girls Champions

St Joseph's Girls Kitale from Trans Nzoia County have been crowned the 2026 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national girls' hockey champions.
The team, also known as JOGA, secured the title after a tense final against Nyamira Girls, winning 2-1 in a penalty shootout following a goalless draw in regular time. The victory took place during the national games held in Kisumu and marks a significant achievement for the school, which has shown strong consistency throughout the competition.
The final was a closely fought contest between two well-prepared sides. Both teams displayed solid defensive play, resulting in no goals during the main match. When the game moved to penalties, St Joseph's Girls Kitale kept their composure and successfully converted their chances to edge out Nyamira Girls by a 2-1 margin. Coach John Lusaka praised his players for their disciplined performance and strong teamwork, noting that the win was the result of hard work and focus from the entire squad.
This triumph adds to the growing reputation of St Joseph's Girls Kitale in school sports. The team had earlier performed well in regional competitions, including the FEASSA Games, and entered the national stage with confidence. Their success highlights the depth of talent in girls' hockey across Kenyan secondary schools and the competitive nature of the KSSSA national games. Nyamira Girls, who reached the final after a strong campaign that included a notable comeback in earlier rounds, also deserve recognition for their effort and sportsmanship.
The crowning of St Joseph's Girls Kitale as champions brings pride to Trans Nzoia County and serves as an inspiration for young female athletes nationwide. School sports like hockey play an important role in building character, teamwork, and physical fitness among students. Many now look forward to seeing how this victory will motivate other schools and contribute to the continued growth of hockey at the secondary school level in Kenya. The 2026 KSSSA games have once again demonstrated the high standard of competition and the bright future of youth sports in the country.
