Suspected Child Trafficker Arrested, Minor Rescued in Kiminini

Detectives in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County, have arrested a 56-year-old man suspected of child trafficking and safely rescued a 10-year-old boy.

Acting on a tip-off from alert members of the public, officers rushed to Nyamira Village after reports of an unfamiliar man walking with a young boy. They found the suspect, identified as Gilbert Nyabuto, in the company of the minor.

The man claimed to be a “Deputy Commissioner” with the National Intelligence Service and even produced an identification document showing that rank. However, a search on his backpack revealed suspicious items — academic certificates belonging to different people and blank fake Kenya Defence Forces calling letters.

When asked about the boy, Nyabuto said he was only helping the child find accommodation. Both the suspect and the minor were taken to Kiminini Police Station for further questioning.

The child was later identified by his mother from the nearby Salona area and has been happily reunited with his family. The suspect remains in police custody as detectives continue investigations into possible charges of child trafficking, impersonation, and fraud.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has thanked members of the public for their quick action, which helped rescue the boy and prevent what could have been a serious crime.
