NAIROBI — October 4, 2026

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has unveiled The Equitable Party (TEP) as the political vehicle for his 2027 political ambitions, signalling a new phase in the journey of the Linda Mwananchi Movement.

Sifuna made the announcement during a meeting of the Linda Mwananchi team at the Stanley Hotel in Nairobi, where political allies and supporters gathered as the movement moved to formalise its political structure ahead of the 2027 General Election.

TEP is already a fully registered political party, providing the political platform through which Sifuna and his team can organise as they prepare for the next electoral contest.

The development comes shortly after a legal breakthrough for the Linda Mwananchi Movement.

The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal recently overturned an earlier decision that had blocked the reservation of the Linda Mwananchi name. The Registrar of Political Parties subsequently approved the reservation of the name, paving the way for the movement to pursue the next stage of its formalisation.

The approval, however, does not mean that Linda Mwananchi is already a registered political party. The movement has secured the right to reserve its name, while TEP remains the existing registered party.

Sifuna's team now plans to use the established TEP structure as it works towards transforming the party into the political home of the Linda Mwananchi Movement.

The senator has indicated that the intention is to eventually rebrand TEP as Linda Mwananchi Movement, subject to the completion of the necessary legal and administrative processes.

The arrangement provides Sifuna's camp with an existing party structure while allowing it to retain the Linda Mwananchi identity that has increasingly become associated with the movement.

The Stanley Hotel meeting therefore marks an important transition, with the movement shifting from a campaign seeking formal recognition of its preferred name to a political outfit operating through an already registered party.

The coming weeks are expected to focus on the proposed rebranding, party leadership structures, and the broader political mobilisation ahead of 2027.

For now, TEP is the registered political vehicle, while Linda Mwananchi remains the name the Sifuna-led team is seeking to establish as its formal political identity.
