Three more suspects linked to Chaiiwali café robbery arrested
Investigators have made fresh breakthroughs in the armed robbery at Chaiiwali café in Westlands, leading to the arrest of three additional suspects.
The operation took place in Mwiki and Githurai areas within Kiambu County, where the individuals attempted to escape but were quickly apprehended by security officers. This development brings more momentum to efforts to dismantle the group behind the daring heist.
During a follow-up search at a residence connected to the suspects in Kimbo, authorities recovered two firearms, each loaded with ammunition. Preliminary findings strongly tie the trio to the incident through CCTV evidence showing masked assailants arriving on motorcycles. The rapid raid at the popular restaurant along General Mathenge Road in Spring Valley lasted less than 40 seconds, during which several high-value items including iPhones, a Samsung phone, and a laptop were taken.
One suspect previously linked to the robbery, Vincent Ochieng, was fatally shot during a confrontation with detectives in Joska, Machakos County earlier this month. His refusal to surrender sparked a gunfight, highlighting the risks officers face in pursuing such criminals. Tracking of a stolen phone had earlier pointed investigators toward the Baba Dogo area before the signal went silent.
These arrests underscore ongoing police determination to restore safety in public spaces across the country. The suspects are expected to face court soon as probes continue.
