Three Suspects Held Over Nathan Masai Wasama Deadly Shooting
Detectives have made significant progress in the investigation into the fatal shooting of a respected local businessman, taking three men into custody as they work to unravel the circumstances of the crime.
The victim, sixty-one-year-old Nathan Masai Wasama, lost his life during a sudden attack at his shop in Tuikut Trading Centre within Sasur Location of Cheptais Sub-County in Bungoma County. Authorities confirmed the arrests after following a series of solid leads that pointed toward those believed responsible for the violence that shook the community on the night of August eighth.
According to early findings, four individuals arrived at the trading centre aboard two motorcycles late that evening. One passenger stepped down from his ride, entered Wasama’s premises, and opened fire before rejoining his companions and speeding away into the darkness. The same assault left a woman wounded by gunfire; she continues to recover in a nearby hospital where her condition has stabilized. Residents described the scene as chaotic and frightening, with the sudden violence cutting short the life of a man known for his everyday presence in the local marketplace.
The first breakthrough came when officers detained Oscar Koech Sakong, a man linked through intelligence to the killing. Building on that success, investigators obtained a search warrant and moved on August eleventh to a home in Marigo Village inside Cheptais Location. There they apprehended two additional suspects identified as Wycliffe Chesubei Ngeiwa, also known as Chota, and Geoffrey Makwere Masai. The carefully planned raid marked a clear expansion of the effort to bring everyone involved before the courts.
During the operation officers recovered a range of items that may prove useful to the inquiry, among them a military-style smoke jacket, a stun grenade, several axes, a crowbar, multiple pangas of different types, knives, arrows, three motorcycles, two mobile phones and an iPod. The two men taken into custody that day remain under detention while detectives complete the necessary paperwork for their formal presentation in court and request further detention to allow deeper probing of the case.
Meanwhile the search for any remaining participants continues without pause as officers examine possible motives and reconstruct the precise sequence of events that led to the shooting. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has urged the public to refrain from circulating unconfirmed claims that might interfere with the process, endanger witnesses or undermine the pursuit of justice. Officials stress that only verified information will help secure a complete and fair resolution for the family and the wider community affected by this tragedy.
