TikTok has taken sweeping action against harmful material in Kenya, removing more than 820,000 videos and banning over 108,000 accounts in just three months.

The platform's latest enforcement report for the final quarter of 2025 shows a strong push to make the app safer for users by targeting violations of its community guidelines. This aggressive moderation drive reflects growing concerns about online safety in one of the platform's key African markets.

Out of the 820,552 Kenyan videos taken down between October and December, nearly all were caught by automated systems before users could report them. Most removals happened within 24 hours of posting, demonstrating the effectiveness of TikTok's advanced detection tools. The banned accounts included a large number suspected to belong to children under 13, highlighting efforts to protect younger users from inappropriate exposure and ensure age-appropriate experiences.

The removals form part of a broader global initiative, with TikTok deleting 175.3 million videos worldwide during the same period. In Kenya, the focus remained on curbing issues such as misinformation, hate speech, and other damaging content that can spread rapidly on social media. By combining technology with human oversight, the company aims to foster a healthier digital environment while maintaining an engaging space for creators.

This significant cleanup is likely to spark mixed reactions among Kenyan users and content creators. While many will welcome improved safety standards, some may worry about over-moderation affecting free expression. As TikTok continues expanding in the region, its commitment to stricter enforcement could shape the future of online interactions and set new benchmarks for responsible platform governance in Africa.
