Tragic Head-On Collision Claims Six Lives on Nairobi-Mombasa Highway

A devastating road accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway in Taita Taveta County's Manyatta area has left six people dead and several others injured

The incident occurred early on March 5, 2026, when a Chania Executive passenger bus collided head-on with a trailer. Reports indicate the bus driver was attempting to overtake another vehicle at the time of the crash, resulting in the trailer striking the right side of the bus, severely damaging it and causing the vehicle to veer off the road.

The collision proved fatal for six individuals, believed to be passengers seated primarily on the impacted side of the bus. The injured survivors were quickly transported to Moi Referral Hospital in Voi, where they are receiving medical treatment for their conditions. Authorities, including Coast traffic boss Asha Wario, confirmed the details of the crash, noting that the bus was traveling toward Mombasa while the trailer was heading in the opposite direction toward Nairobi.

This latest tragedy on one of Kenya's busiest highways has once again highlighted ongoing concerns about road safety, reckless overtaking, and heavy traffic risks on the Nairobi-Mombasa corridor. Emergency responders attended the scene promptly, and investigations into the exact circumstances are underway. More details are expected as authorities continue their inquiries.
